Stories My Dog Told Me

Watch This Segment Online.
Description:Our first story this trip is for our many animal lovers out there -- you know who your are, stretched out on the couch right now with your pet by your side. It’s a personal story for one of our producers -- who, when he found out that his dog was very sick -- went out to find the best medical care he could. Along the way, he met Mary Marshall, who calls herself an "animal communicator." Can Mary do what she says? Are such powers for real? Well, you decide for yourself as we journey to Mary's farm in Acton. That's where our producer’s convinced that he spent an August afternoon talking with his very best friend.

The National Goat Show

Watch This Segment Online.
Description:Our next story is also about animals -- and if these critters could talk, you might find them sprawled out on the psychiatrist couch, for they are perhaps farmland’s most misunderstood souls. We’re talking about the goat, who it seems, is more intelligent and loveable than anyone contemplating such creatures might have imagined. Who knew? Well, two ladies who call themselves “Mad As Birds” did -- and they’ve made goats the subject of a new documentary in production for PBS. The location? Well, no one knows these animals better than Indianapolis' very own “National Goat Show.”

When You Say 'Pierogi,' You've Said a Mouthful

Watch This Segment Online.
Description:Every city and town in Indiana has one. No, not a tanning salon! A summer festival! Now, on the brochure sent out by the tourist board for the town of Whiting, it says: "Whiting: More Than You Imagined." Well, we couldn't imagine what a "pierogifest" was, so we went up to check it out for ourselves. What is a pierogi? Remember, Whiting stands in the shadow of the ethnic mecca of Chicago, so its got to have some sort of European heritage. And no, its not a dance, an ugly dog, or a musical instrument. It's a Polish won ton -- and our producer vows he'll break the official pierogi-eating record by gulping down 27 of them before the sun sets.

Collins Caviar

Watch This Segment Online.
Description:For twenty-years, the folks at Collins Caviar have been sating the palates of the well-do-to and some of you average-type folks who like to deck out an evening repast like you were going to a wedding. Think its easy getting the world’s finest fresh water caviar to your table? Think again, for Collins posts a dizzying array of products -- from salmon to hackleback sturgeon caviar, smoked caviars, wasabi caviars. They’ve even got a margarita caviar featuring great lakes whitefish laced with tequila. Scott Hutcheson, known to many of you through his newspaper column “The Hungry Hoosier” wonders how fish eggs might taste on that Indiana staple, the tenderloin (!), and heads to Michigan City to give us the scoop -- er -- make that a dollop on a mother-of-pearl-spoon.
