Shelter from the Storm

Watch This Segment Online.
Description:Our first stop on this trip “Across Indiana” is at a place where all of us wouldn’t want to be ~ caught in the flood waters that wreak havoc on so many communities this time of year.  But, when the Tippecanoe and other rivers flooded near Lafayette this January, it was friends and neighbors to the rescue ~not just to provide displaced families the means to carry on and rebuild, but also to provide another kind of relief, a place to unwind, have a little fun, and listen to some great music.

Location:Lafayette

Where the Wild Things Are

Watch This Segment Online.
Description:“Across Indiana” always gets a lot of viewer response when we visit animal sanctuaries ~ and that’s precisely where we’re headed now.  Idaville.  We’re visiting a place that specializes in rescue of unique animals, claiming among its most illustrious alumni, “Mike” the LSU Tiger mascot.  There’s even a remarkable “adopt-a-tiger” program where families can literally take a cub home and bottle-feed it.

Putting the 'Pop' in Corn

Watch This Segment Online.
Description:In the summertime, Hoosiers travel on their stomachs ~ and that’s no laughing matter.  For when the thermometer climbs up into the 70s and 80s, the grills come out and the summer food festivals pop up like sizzling hot kernels in a bucket of boiling oil.  Which is the most appropriate segue we could think of for our next feature—we’re headed to the Brazil festival known for its popping perfection.

Porch Talk: The Coatesville Comeback

Watch This Segment Online.
Description:Our first story dealt with springtime flooding in Indiana.  But Hoosiers are no strangers to severe weather . . . and have never let little things like tornadoes get them down.  When Coatesville was obliterated by a twister, the town set out to rebuild, bringing to its humble streets a hometown renaissance . . . including, according to Danville minister and author Philip Gulley, a new-found favorite library and a new-found favorite restaurant—even if they don’t serve sweet tea.

Location:Coatesville

Boogie Man Redux

Watch This Segment Online.
Description:We are joined once again by Bloomington’s Craig Brenner (accompanied by drummer Jeff Chapin), as he shows us some pretty fancy keyboard work.

Ironstock

Watch This Segment Online.
Description:Finally, Halloween is still many moons away, but if you find yourself overcome by an overwhelming urge for the macabre, the good folks in Tell City have a special festival designed just for ghouls and gals with delayed gratification problems.  It’s called “Ironstock” -- a festival featuring bizarre make-ups, seminars on how to concoct them, and other goodies such as creating monstrous-looking costumes and accessories.  But the event that got our attention—the coffin obstacle race.  Just screams fun, doesn’t it?
