Inspiration Cast in Bronze: A CBC Special

In almost every public park or plaza in the world stand monuments to people and events of the past.

Why do communities create these physical likenesses of those we choose to remember? What do we hope to learn from lives we celebrate with sculptures of bronze or stone?

Inspiration Cast in Bronze follows the progress of sculptors Raymond Graf and Kenneth Ryden as they create bronze memorials to the late Gov. Frank O’Bannon, for permanent display on the town square in Corydon, and in the Rotunda of the Indiana State House.

Through observation of these artists at work, and through in-depth conversations, we discuss not just the “how,” but more importantly the “why” of this centuries-old process of creating bronze statues for the purpose of public memorial art.

This program made possible by the encouragement of private citizens from all over Indiana who are concerned with developing leadership in our state and have contributed their skills, experiences and finances.

Special thanks to the following coordinating organizations:
The Commission to Recommend a Statehouse Memorial for Governor O'Bannon
The Frank O'Bannon Memorial Committee
The Harrison County Community Foundation
