The Hope Givers
Experience a journey to Morocco with a message of help and hope.
Program Script

Woman holding babyWithin the shadow of the glittering Hassan II Mosque sit Casablanca’s “walls of shame” – whitewashed barriers built to hide the city’s poor. And from these shantytown paths women make a weekly pilgrimage to a local clinic, with their infant children in tow.

But today, brings something extraordinary: a group of strangers to help treat their malnourished babies. The gravity of the situation for these mothers and their children hit the volunteers immediately.

“I expected to see small babies – but then to see bones, little backbones and little legs that should be walking and playing that didn’t have the strength to stand up – you think, ‘how can this happen,’” said Anita Ebert, a member of Indiana mission to Morocco.

The Hope Givers, follows this group of Hoosiers as it makes the journey to the L’Heure Joyeuse clinic half-a-world away, bringing with them a message of help and of hope. It is a message born from the optimism of the Heartland and carried by Hoosier hands willing to work for change.

Woman on Mule“I have to believe that there is light at the end of the tunnel for people who have suffered,” said Kai Binford, a member of Indiana mission to Morocco.

Led by Indianapolis businesswoman Patty Thornberry, this coalition of caring – a doctor, a nutritionist, a psychologist, a student, a mother and a daughter, civic leaders and corporate businesspeople – found the adventure of a lifetime.
