This I Believe

In April 2007, WFYI began featuring a three-minute essay read by its author on Wednesday editions of Morning Edition, one of the most listened-to programs on WFYI FM 90.1. Until that time, these essays had only been collected nationally by NPR. You can read or listen to a selection of the locally submitted essays online here...

WFYI INFORMATION
The Mission of WFYI
As a trusted catalyst for lifelong learning, WFYI public broadcasting engages and enriches our community through distinctive programs and services.

TelePlex Defined
The TelePlex is best described as a center for the development and operation of broad-based, multi-channel telecommunications systems.

WFYI is celebrating over three decades of connecting Hoosiers with valued information and cultural enrichment. The role of public broadcasting as a community telecommunications complex includes: nationally distributed programs for television and radio; locally produced programs for television and radio; educational initiatives and outreach activities; telecommunications services; services for special audiences; and special events.

Going Beyond Programming
While renowned for its programming, WFYI is more than just another radio and television service. WFYI works to help solve problems that are important to the central Indiana community. Through the years, programs have been broadcast on topics such as literacy, substance abuse, workforce development, and the environment. These programs, accompanied by community outreach efforts with other organizations, focus attention on developing workable solutions. WFYI has been a partner to education for 30 years. Examples of educational initiatives currently underway are the GED Connection series that prepares individuals to pass the high school equivalency examination and Ready To Learn, an outreach program that teaches parents and day-care providers how to utilize children's programs in an interactive fashion to prepare preschoolers to enter the first grade. WFYI is committed to serving as a community resource and leader in education outreach.
