INDIANAPOLIS  Visit Indy has announced that 2014 was a record-breaking year for tourism in the city.

The organization says it exceeded its goal, and broke a 12-year-old record, booking 880,552 convention hotel room-nights for future dates.

Contributing to record numbers were commitments from the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation for the 2017 North American Cystic Fibrosis Conference;  GameStop Corporation for its 2018 EXPO; and the National Rifle Association for its 2019 and 2023 annual meetings.

And it wasn’t just convention sales setting records. Visit Indy says it also set new highs for summer weekend leisure hotel room-nights and VisitIndy.com website visits.

Leonard Hoops, president & CEO of Visit Indy, said national recognition like being named USA Today’s Best Convention City in the U.S., and inclusion on the New York Times 52 Places To Go list were major boosts to the city’s appeal in 2014.
