40 Brewers, Wineries Set For Indiana State Fair

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — This year's Indiana State Fair will be serving alcohol for the first time in nearly 70 years.

About 40 Indiana craft brewers and wineries will be setting up shop in the new wine and beer garden inside the fairgrounds' Grand Hall. The General Assembly this year lifted a longstanding ban on alcohol at the fair and organizers began accepting applications last month.

Fair spokesman Andy Klotz tells WIBC-FM (http://bit.ly/1tqXaFs ) that interest came from breweries and wineries across the state. The available beer and wine will vary day to day.

Visitors to the beer garden will receive a wristband limiting them to three sample-size servings of beer or wine. Alcohol won't be allowed to leave the Grand Hall.

The fair is scheduled for Aug. 1-17.
