Indy 500 Fans Face New Roundabout

Indy 500 Fans Face New Roundabout

Significant new infrastructure is in place at a busy intersection in Speedway, and many race fans are getting their first look at a new $15 million roundabout connecting Crawfordsville Road, 16th Street and Main Street.

The new Main St. Roundabout, which opened last fall, is part of Speedway’s $500 million redevelopment plan to better connect the town to the track, says Indianapolis Motor Speedway President Doug Boles.

"The fans will notice when they get here, the good thing about the roundabout is it’s a great way to really realize what’s going on the town of Speedway, the new restaurants and what’s going on down there," says Boles.

Boles anticipates that fans who’re used to coming in on Crawfordsville Road and then turning left onto Georgetown, which has been turned into a cul-de-sac, will get the most turned around.

"You want to know where you’re going to park to begin with, so if you’re used to parking in a neighborhood on the west side of the Speedway you need to make that decision early on and start heading into the neighborhoods," explains Boles.

The color-coded ‘Know Your Zone’ program lets fans search best routes and parking options. A local and state police presence will also be directing the hundreds of thousand of fans in and out of Speedway on race day.
