Bantz Will Step Down At IUPUI

IUPUI Chancellor Charles Bantz has announced plans to step down next August.

In his 11 years as chancellor, Bantz has overseen a time of campus expansion and a higher community profile for the school.

Bantz says the school’s successes stem from a commitment to goals and the support of people on campus and off.

"It couldn’t have happened without community support both through philanthropy and through the legislative support we've received, patnerships with mayors and governors," say Bantz.

Around 31,000 students are enrolled at IUPUI this year. Since 2003 the number of students bachelor’s degrees increased by 66 percent. Bantz considers the school’s campus center – which opened in 2007 – as the most important addition to campus during his tenure. And many more students now live on campus – about 2,000 compared to 350 in 2003.

Bantz says the school is well poised for the future and the timing is right for his departure.

"I’m 65, I expect to work for a number of years," says Bantz. "I'm blessed with longevity in my family and I think I need to get started on that next phase of my career."

That phase includes taking some time and then returning to IUPUI to teach.  Bantz would also like to work on a book and become involved in research and philanthropy.  He and his wife plan to stay in Indianapolis.
