The city’s Carrier Task Force is teaming up with Indy-native “Pete the Planner.”
Financial planner Peter Dunn will host a program for the 1,400 employees who will lose their jobs when Carrier moves its Indianapolis operations to Mexico.
“We cannot allow one company’s wrongheaded business decisions to negatively impact the long-term financial wellbeing of an entire community,” Mayor Joe Hogsett said. “I am honored that Pete the Planner, an Indianapolis native himself, wants to aid our community’s hardworking families and help them plan for their future. The program we’ve put together will look at the short and long term effects of Carrier’s announcement and arm these workers, free of charge, with the financial planning resources they need during this difficult period.”
Your Money Plan will be held over a four-month period and will provide workers and their families resources to begin planning for their financial future — at no cost.
Union President Chuck Jones is thrilled to have Dunn’s help. He said the union has received a rash of phone calls from so-called investment people that he believed were trying to prey on his workers’ time and need.
The announcement follows news that the city’s Carrier Task Force would establish a $1.2 million fund to assist workers .
Carrier said layoffs would start in 2017.
