INDIANAPOLIS - The Indianapolis Motor Speedway has set its schedule for the Month of May.
The action will begin May 3 when the speedway opens for an oval test and the debut of new body work, designed specifically for oval racing, that will distinguish the Chevrolet- and Honda-badged race cars. Race officials expect the new aerodynamic designs to result in increased speeds for the Indianapolis 500.
Three days later, drivers will take to the 14-turn road course for the opening practice session of the Angie's List Grand Prix of Indianapolis. The race will be May 9.
Practice for the 99th running of the Indianapolis 500 will begin May 11. Qualifications will be May 16 and 17. Coors Light Carb Day will be May 22. And the race will be May 24.
Around and in between the track activities, the IMS has planned concerts, and fan activities.
"Anticipation is already building and we are once again excited about our on track schedule as well as the other activities that will make this a special Month of May," said J. Douglas Boles, Indianapolis Motor Speedway president. "Starting with the debut of the aero kits on the oval, followed by the second running of the Angie's List Grand Prix of Indianapolis, the first week of activity will provide a perfect lead up to Indianapolis 500 practice, qualifying and the 99th Running of the Indianapolis 500. May can't get here fast enough!"
