Indiana Officials Urging Residents To Prepare For Wind Chill

The Indiana Department of Homeland Security was advising residents to prepare for temperatures near or below zero as a cold front moved in Wednesday morning.

According to the department, strong wind gusts are expected across the state and will create wind chills that can lead to frostbite in 30 minutes or less. Officials are urging residents to be mindful of the amount of time they and their animals are spending outdoors.

Beginning Wednesday morning, three additional staff members will be on hand at the State of Indiana Emergency Operations Center to assist local public safety officers with weather-related needs.

The National Weather Service has issued wind chill advisories for northern and central Indiana, saying wind chills will be between 10 and 25 degrees below zero Wednesday afternoon through Thursday morning.
