INDIANAPOLIS – Crews plan to begin paving a new asphalt surface on more than five miles of Interstate 65 on the northwest side.
The $3.2 million project will include paving a new one-and-a-half-inch asphalt surface on all interstate lanes between I-465 and I-865 (miles 123 to 129).
Lane closures for concrete patching will begin May 28. I-65 will be restricted to one lane Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. to saw-cut areas of pavement to be repaired. The lane closures will occur each weekend for approximately six weeks beginning Fridays at 9 p.m. through Mondays at 6 a.m. as aging pavement is removed and replaced.
The Indiana Department of Transportation says motorists should expect recurring weeknight single-lane restrictions for paving between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. until the interstate resurface project is complete in September. After paving is complete, the lanes will remain closed with no workers on site until the asphalt cools enough that it is ready for traffic.
