Indy's Largest Yogi Event Returns With Summer Solstice

Indy's Largest Yogi Event Returns With Summer Solstice

Indianapolis will host its fifth annual Monumental Yoga at Monument Circle Wednesday, June 21, from 4 to 8:30 p.m.

Cassie Stockamp, president of the Athenaeum Foundation, created Monumental Yoga.

“Yoga has changed me personally. It has had a profound effect," Stockamp says. "So I wanted to have an opportunity to bring a free class to the larger community for anyone to try.”

There will be a Yoga Village with local artisans, restaurants, musicians and a variety of vendors.

“We have almost 80 vendors of all different types that will be there henna, drumming, Reiki, food, producers of goods and services that will be from 4-7 p.m. But also starting at 4 p.m., a new addition this year is we are having mini classes."

And at 7 p.m., there will be one big Summer Solstice celebration yoga class for all 3,000-plus participants.  For parents who wish to practice with their children (ages 6 and up), a 45-minute yoga routine will be held simultaneously with the main event.

This is a donation-based event and all proceeds will go to Indy Yoga Movement and Mighty Lotus, local nonprofit charities.  Free bike parking will be available and IndyGo will provide free bus passes to those under 18 with a yoga mat the day of the event.

Participants should bring their own mat and a water bottle.
