Lugar Series Is Accepting Applications From GOP Women

Women from around the state are invited to apply for the 2014-2015 class of The Richard G. Lugar Excellence in Public Service Series.

The program provides training, experience, skills and mentors to women interested in public service and helps them to build a political network. In its 25th year, the program has had 441 women complete the program.

The program was designed to help promote and increase the number of Republican women in local, state and national government offices.

“My commitment to encourage women to enter government and political service continues through my association with members of the 24 classes,” said former U.S. Sen. Richard Lugar. “They have set a high standard for future classes and I look forward to working with them as they advance in the public sector.”

Applicants have to have shown leadership skills in their area of work or community service. They will then be evaluated on written and oral presentations.

“Our mission is to increase the number of Hoosier Republican women in key elected and appointed governmental and political positions, including advisory and regulatory commissions at the local, state and federal levels,” said Judy Singleton and Higher Education Commissioner Teresa Lubbers, the co-founders of the program.

“We have built a wonderful success story of helping Republican women move into the public policy and government service arena,” Singleton said.
