Primary elections for mayoral races in central Indiana played out much as expected.

One of the most heated battles in the Indianapolis suburbs was for Mayor of Carmel.  City Council President Rick Sharp and long-time incumbent Jim Brainard spent the past few months debating about the city’s finances.  In the end, Brainard, who has been praised for transforming the city, won the race and will almost certainly lead Carmel for another four years.

In Indianapolis, mayoral candidates Democrat Joe Hogsett and Republican Chuck Brewer both won their primaries, as expected.   Hogsett says looking forward to November…..  he’s not taking anything for granted.

"Races in Indianapolis, particularly those for mayor tend to be very competitive and that’s precisely what we will anticipate and plan on." says Hogsett

In the strongly Republican suburbs of Westfield and Noblesville incumbents, Mayor Andy Cook and Mayor John Ditslear, also won.

Traditionally, primaries elections in Indiana have low voter turnout, four years ago under 10 percent of Hoosiers headed out to the polls.
