Pence Urges Obama To Approve Keystone Pipeline

Pence Urges Obama To Approve Keystone Pipeline

Gov. Mike Pence Monday urged President Obama to approve the controversial Keystone XL oil pipeline from Canada.

The State Department last week announced its decision to extend – indefinitely – its review of the project, a more than 1,000-mile crude oil pipeline from Canada to the United States.  The Obama administration cited a Nebraska court case that could reroute the pipeline in its decision to delay.

Gov. Pence sent a letter to the president, urging him to approve what he calls a “significant project” that will have an “important impact” to Indiana.  Although Keystone doesn’t go through Indiana, Pence says the Hoosier manufacturing industry builds large truck engines, pipe controls and other products that will be used both in construction and operation of the pipeline. The governor says Keystone will also help the U.S. become more energy independent.
