Plan 2020 To Be Unveiled To The Public

Plan 2020 To Be Unveiled To The Public

A pair of meetings Wednesday evening will give people a glimpse of Indy’s future.  The public launch of Plan 2020 marks an important part of the design to shape Indy’s future.

The planning initiative is collaboration between the Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee, the Department of Metropolitan Development, local leaders and the community.

Alex Miser with the DMD says everyone is invited to come out to the old City Hall, redubbed "The Hall," on Wednesday night.

"This will be an opportunity for the public to come in, learn about the plan and also engage with some of the early strategies our project managers have developed," explains Miser. "So, it will be a good chance for them to come and see what we've been working on and input their own ideas into the process."

The planning process encompasses six broad areas of city/county development from land use, transportation and recreation to downtown growth and economic development.  Miser says the plan uses five themes to inspire and engage people to participate.

"Choose Indy, connect Indy, love Indy, serve Indy and work Indy, and developing a set of strategies and implementation goals on how to make Indianapolis more competitive and attractive by our bicenntenial in 2020," says Miser. Wednesday’s event starts at 5 p.m. with an economic development workshop followed by a casual open house at 6:30 p.m. when people will be able to add pictures and ideas to an interactive timeline.

The meetings are free but people are asked to RSVP at Plan2020.com.
