Purdue Officials Mulling Name Of Merged Campuses

WESTVILLE, Ind. (AP) — A committee working out details for merging the Purdue University Calumet and Purdue University North Central campuses is still working on coming up with a new name.

The Times of Munster reports the goal of merging the schools is to enable a stronger Purdue presence in northwest Indiana. The merger will do that by streamlining administrative functions and reinvesting the saved resources in academic programs and faculty.

Committee members decided last week to continue research into a new name for the unified university. Discussion of the naming process will remain on the agenda for future meetings.

The first step in the unification took place on April 1 when Stephen Turner was appointed as vice chancellor for finance and administration for both campuses.
