Shortridge Wins State Indoor Percussion Title

The Shortridge Magnet High School's Indoor Percussion Ensemble took home top honors in the Indiana Percussion Association’s State Finals on March 15.

“The kids were excited and proud all day long,” said Shortridge Band Director, Kathryn Spangler. “The state title is truly an honor.  I have always told them that hard work pays off in the end.  We work to do our best each time we step on the floor, we are continuously striving for excellence.”

On the road to the finals, the group has rehearsed three nights a week and every Saturday since Thanksgiving. The show was called “We’re Coming For You” and was based on the music "Paranormal" by Frank Sullivan, arranged by Joe Tracy.

Shortridge scored  an 86.25 for their final performance, winning first place by three points.

“Looking back at the start of this (Shortridge) indoor percussion program and where we are now it’s amazing seeing the growth of the students within the group,” said senior snare drummer, Ian Gibson. “I will never forget the memories that we have created as an ensemble and the history we have made in the process.”
