A new federal law requires most employers to give reasonable pregnancy accommodations to workers. However, the original language of the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA) is somewhat broad and enforcement is complicated. The federal agency in charge of enforcing the law is trying to help workers and employers understand it.

Indianapolis-based health insurance giant Elevance Health, previously Anthem, Inc., will have to face a federal lawsuit alleging it pocketed at least tens of millions of dollars by submitting inaccurate claims to the U.S. Centers for Medicaid & Medicare Services.

Pregnant Hoosiers enrolled in Medicaid used to be at risk losing that coverage 60 days after giving birth. Indiana has now received federal approval to extend that coverage to a full year.

The state’s goal is to get 90 percent of calls to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline from Indiana answered by in-state crisis counselors by 2023.
