A long-term plan for funding Indianas roads is still to come, after a legislative task force dedicated to developing that plan wrapped up the first half of its work Wednesday.

A number of measures passed by Indiana lawmakers during the 2023 session will impact Indianapolis and Marion County.

A fix to the road funding formula in Marion County is moving through the state legislature. The measure includes three townships in the total county population.

The additional funding will allow the Department of Public Works to address some of the worst roads in Marion County.

The grants, announced last week, benefit 218 government entities chosen after they submitted applications in January for a call for projects.

Indiana first awarded the local road funding grants in 2016. Larger counties, cities and towns must match 50 percent of the money the state sends, while smaller communities only have to come up with 25 percent.
