Kids are born storytellers, and WFYI provided a way for those who like to write and illustrate to be recognized for their creativity. In 2010, nearly 200 Kindergarten through third graders wrote and illustrated original storybooks and entered them in the PBS KIDS Go! Writer's Contest*.
All contest entries were judged on originality, creative expression, storytelling and integration of copy and illustrations. The contest judging panel was comprised of educators, artists, librarians and early childhood specialists.
Every child who entered the contest received a Certificate of Achievement. Local winners received DVD's, books and art supplies. The local first place winners at each grade level advanced to the national competition.
*2010 was the final year WFYI participated in the PBS KIDS Go! Writer's Contest.
