All branches of the Indianapolis Public Library, or IPL, now have a pair of laptops on site that can be reserved for in-house use.
Laptops can be reserved up to seven days in advance and used for a maximum of two hours, according to IPL. The computers will not be available for gaming or general use — they're meant to be used primarily for online appointments.
"We encourage eligible patrons to take advantage of this opportunity to access technology and complete important tasks such as job interviews, telehealth appointments, and other digital needs our public PCs do not provide," said Public Relations Manager Keshia McEntire.
IPL encourages borrowers to reserve a study room for private meetings or appointments. The on-site laptops have a 13-inch screen, a built-in webcam and microphone, and bluetooth capabilities.
To borrow a laptop you must:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Present a valid Indianapolis Public Library card and photo ID at the time of checkout
- Have a non-expired library account with a balance of less than $25.00, no outstanding collections, no lost or damaged equipment charges, and no account blocks or suspensions
- Read and sign the 'In-House Laptop Acceptable Use Agreement' before use
