Michigan City’s Lubeznik Center for the Arts will feature works by Pop-artist Andy Warhol.
Warhol was the leading figure of the pop art movement in the 1960s and '70s, often working with cultural icons like musicians and writers.
The Lubeznik Center exhibit, Warhol: Influence and Icon will feature works on loan from the Brauer Museum at Valparaiso University, as well as a private collector. Showcased works will include Campbell’s Soup Can #1, Moonwalk, 1987, as well as a collection of Polaroids and screen prints, which became a defining medium for Warhol. Work by Chicago-area artists influenced by the Warhol will also be on display.
Lora Fosberg, director of exhibitions at the Lubeznik Center, said the Warhol exhibit is special to her and she’s excited to share it with the community.
“By bringing in a heavy hitter, like Andy Warhol, we thought that we could really bring something to the community that they would normally have to travel to see,” Fosberg said.
The exhibit will run through October 13. The Lubeznik Center will host an opening reception for the exhibit July 6.
