On Monday, staff from one locally-based organization will be taking advantage of a nationwide opportunity to learn more about an important element of computer science.
“Hour of Code” is a movement aimed at raising awareness of the high demand for students trained in computer science-related fields. Project Lead the Way is encouraging local schools, businesses and students to get involved by participating in the effort this week, during Computer Science Education Week.
PLTW's Chief Engagement Officer, Dave Dimmett, says the goal is to demystify the field of computer science.
"It’s estimated that by 2020 there will be 1 million more computer science jobs than there are students prepared to fill those jobs," he said.
PLTW is working to change that by piloting computer and software courses in schools across the country. Anyone can take part in the Hour of Code movement at code.org.
