Marion County Reports First West Nile Case

The first human case of West Nile Virus is being reported in Marion County.  This year there have been 11 cases recorded in Indiana.

Marion County Health officials warn that even though the seasonal threat is diminished, there is still a chance you could get the virus while mosquitos are active. This year’s current numbers are an improvement over last year when the county reported 12 cases and two deaths.

Residents are urged to remove standing water from their yards and to wear protective clothing and repellent.  When a West Nile case is identified the Marion County Health Department dispatches workers to treat standing water, distribute information and spray the affected neighborhood.
