A new text message service from the Indiana State Department of Health aims to connect more moms-to-be with pregnancy resources.
The MOMS helpline phone service was launched in 2016 and receives thousands of calls every year. The new service allows people to text for information related to pregnancy.
“We are always looking for more ways that technology can be used to improve Hoosiers’ health,” said Dr. Kristina Box, Indiana State Department of Health commissioner in a statement.
The move allows specialists to provide direct links through a smartphone to resources including health insurance, transportation and baby supplies. The service, available in English and Spanish, was created as a tool to reduce Indiana’s high infant mortality rate.
