Two people were arrested following a town hall with Lt. Governor Micah Beckwith in Newburgh, Wednesday night.

The arrests came after a combative meeting with the Lt. Governor, where attendees could be heard shouting at Beckwith.

The two people arrested by police were charged with allegedly resisting arrest and battery against a public official. On Thursday afternoon, case documents filed in Warrick Superior Court revealed one of those people was charged with a felony.

The Warrick County Jail confirmed both individuals were released Thursday morning after bonding out.

Micah Beckwith posted a statement to social media following the town hall, saying that while he welcomed debate, “there were individuals with less than good intentions and resorted to uncivil conduct against each other and law enforcement.”

The Lieutenant Governor did not respond to our request for comment, but separately posted that one of the attendees had “slapped a cop.”

At a luncheon in Bloomington on Thursday, Beckwith told WFIU that he would continue attending town halls and hoped that people would learn to be civil.

Warrick County Sheriff Michael Wilder said in a statement posted to social media that an investigation into the incident was ongoing.
