It’s back to school time and a long-running event will help kids and parents in Marion County get ready.

Covering Kids and Families of Health and Hospital Corporation is hosting the 18th annual Back to School Family Day on Saturday at the Marion County Public Health Department.

“Making sure kids have their sports physicals if they need it. If they are playing sports they need to have a sports physical. If they have all their immunizations, we want to make sure they get their eyes checked, we want to make sure they get their teeth checked,” says director Pamela Humes.

Those who need health insurance can get enrolled on-site for Hoosier Healthwise, Health Advantage, Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP) 2.0, or plans available through the Affordable Care Act. In order to enroll, the following documents are needed: income stubs from the last three months, Social Security number, and proof of address in Marion County.

Each child will also receive a free backpack with school supplies.

Last year, close to 10,000 people showed up for the event.

Saturday's event takes place 8:30 a.m.-Noon in the parking lot of the Marion County Public Health Department, 3838 N. Rural St.
