Bisard Gets 16 Years, 3 Suspended

Former Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer David Bisard has been sentenced to 16 years with three years suspended.

Allen Superior Court Judge John Surbeck handed down the sentence on Monday following a day of emotional statements from victims and  family members.

On Nov. 5 a jury found Bisard guilty of nine counts of drunken driving, reckless homicide and criminal recklessness in a crash on Aug. 6, 2010 that killed motorcyclist Eric Wells and severely injured Kurt Weekly and Mary Mills -- who are now married.

The crash happened on Indianapolis' northeastside, but the trial was moved to Fort Wayne due to extnesive pre-trial publicity.
