A detention hearing for John Goelz is scheduled next Tuesday in Indianapolis.

A Carmel High School swim coach will face federal charges for sexual exploitation of a minor and the possession of child pornography, federal law enforcement announced Thursday.

Twenty-nine-year-old John Goelz was arrested July 3. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Indiana says law enforcement learned in late June that Goelz may be involved in a sexual relationship with a female athlete.

The office says federal agents retrieved explicit material on the coach’s personal cell phone.

Goelz is still in custody. If convicted he could face a minimum of 15 years in prison.

A detention hearing is scheduled next Tuesday in Indianapolis.
