Carson Wins Indiana's 7th Congressional District

Democrat André Carson will retain his seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

The race for Indiana’s 7th District was a relatively quiet one. The seat has been held by Carson since 2008. He succeeded his grandmother Julia Caron, who died in 2007. The district makes up a majority of Marion County.

Speaking on a virtual Indiana Democratic event Tuesday night. Carson thanked constituents and said now is the time for lawmakers to come together.

“To do what’s right for everyday people because COVID does not discriminate,” Carson said.

Republican Susan Marie Smith, an attorney and adjunct professor, was Carson’s challenger.

Top issues for candidates included economic recovery, health care and pandemic response.

The Associated Press called the race shortly after 9 p.m. election night.
