City Hosts Scooter Safe Riding Events

Scooters are a popular form of transportation for many in downtown Indianapolis.

The city is teaming up with scooter companies Bird and Lime to make sure riders know the dos and don’ts of using them.

“Scooter companies are going to set up safe riding events. They will have demonstrations for how to properly ride a scooter, they have demonstrations on how to properly park a scooter, and they will also be providing lessons", says Department of Business and Neighborhood Services spokesperson Brandi Pahl.

Events will take place on Georgia Street Friday, Aug. 9 (featuring Bird) and Friday, Aug. 16 (featuring Lime) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the north lanes of Georgia Street (Downtown Indy’s Food Truck Fridays will be taking place during the same time along the southern portion of Georgia Street.)

The events will also allow non-users -- like pedestrians, bicyclists, and other drivers -- an opportunity to learn more about sharing the roads.
