Council Approves COVID Funds, Conversion Therapy Ban And Appointments

The Indianapolis City-County Council held a full meeting Monday night. The meeting started with a special resolution to ban conversion therapy, or any programming to change a person’s sexual idenity.

Councilwoman Ali Brown said the resolution urges statewide action.

“And for such legislation banning conversion therapy in Indiana, to be signed by the governor,” Brown said.

COVID-19 relief related proposals were also approved.  Included are measures to increase funds to cover emergency management costs and paycheck protection programs. 

Council President Vop Osili said funds would cover a lot of costs.

“Such as overtime, PPE, cleaning services, various supplies, eligible costs and equipment,” Osili said.

Newly appointed Chief of Staff Taylor Schaffer says an additional $29 million will be used for local rental assistance.

“To ensure that these dollars go directly to Marion County residents,” Schaffer said.

The council also approved appointments for the new General Orders Boards for IMPD.

Numerous other appointment and reappointments were considered for various boards, committees and positions

Another newly introduced proposal would establish a more permanent place for people experiencing homelessness to camp.
