The Marion County Election Board voted unanimously to open Lucas Oil Stadium for early voting this weekend.

The board passed the resolution to add the satellite site as the city experiences record early voting numbers and hours long lines.

Board Chair Michael Solari said the bipartisan decision comes at an important time.

"I hope this is not just talk," Solari said. "While this year has presented unique challenges the need for accessible and safe voting has always been relevant."

The stadium will provide room to social distance, parking and 56 machines to help move people through the process.

The board originally voted on a plan in August designating the number of early voting locations.
Lucas Oil Stadium will be open for early voting from ten to five Saturday and Sunday.

Vice Chairperson Jennifer Ping says the board is responding to the need.

"It’s obvious there is not enough early vote in person centers planned for this year," Ping said, "again this is unprecedented turnout."

On Election Day Marion County will have 187 vote centers and people can vote at any center.

Voters are also being advised to drop off any absentee ballots that haven’t been mailed yet.
