Find A Safe Ride This New Year's Eve

Find A Safe Ride This New Year's Eve

New Year’s Eve is one of most dangerous holidays on the roads when people decide to drive under the influence.  Everyone knows you shouldn’t get behind the wheel if you’ve been partying, but some still make poor decisions.

Greg Seiter with the AAA Hoosier Motor Club says the best plan is to be prepared.

"There are ride share programs out there that are available, even sharing a ride with friends," Seiter said. "Calling a cab, even planning to spend the night if you're going to be at a friends house."

IndyGo will be running a normal weekday schedule on New Year's Eve and a Sunday schedule on New Year's Day.  The service will be able to get people to their party but will likely not be running if you're staying out until the ball drops.

We couldn't free ride programs planned in the city this year, but some promotions are available.

Stewart and Stewart is running their annual Safe and Sober program, covering the first $20 of cab rides on New Year’s eve with a voucher.  David Stewart with Stewart and Stewart says they’ve been offering their Safe and Sober program for the past six years.

"We started this at a time when we were noticing that there certainly were an increased number of people being injured and killed by drivers who had been drinking," explained Stewart.

According to MADD alcohol impaired drivers in Indiana account for around a third of all motor vehicle deaths.
