The Indianapolis Motor Speedway announced Tuesday that former IndyCar Series driver and team owner Sarah Fisher will drive the pace car for this year’s Indianapolis 500.

Fisher holds the record for most Indy 500 starts among female drivers with nine. Her 2002 qualifying speed of more than 229 miles per hour remains an event record for a female driver.

Fisher will drive a 2023 Corvette Z06 70th Anniversary Edition -- commemorating the Corvette's 70-year history. This year's race will be the 19th time a Corvette has led the starting field.

Racing returns to the speedway Friday with practice and qualifying for the IndyCar: GMR Grand Prix, which will be run on Saturday.

The 106th running of the Indianapolis 500 is Sunday, May 29.
