INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Former Indiana first lady Susan Bayh has undergone brain surgery for removal of a benign tumor.

Evan Bayh says his wife's prognosis is good after undergoing surgery Monday at a Washington, D.C., hospital.

The former Indiana governor and U.S. senator says Susan Bayh had been suffering from headaches for the past 2½ weeks and that a scan last week found plum-sized tumor.

Susan Bayh is 55 years old and an attorney who's been a member of several corporate boards.

The Bayhs have twin sons who were born in 1995 while their father was governor. The Bayhs have lived in Washington since Evan Bayh was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1998. The Democrat didn't seek re-election in 2010.
