Protestors held signs as they marched to the Indiana Governor's mansion Sunday, February 22, 2026.
Ben Thorp / WFYIHundreds of ICE protestors joined a cold, Sunday evening march on Indianapolis’ north side.
The gathering of people from faith organizations and activist groups held a service before walking a few blocks from the Common Ground Church to the Indiana Governor’s mansion to protest Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity in the state.
“Love, not hate, makes America great," was one of the chants that rang out.
The group carried signs and marched in support of immigrants and against the detention center at Miami Correctional Facility where people are being detained.
Last week, an ICE detainee died in custody in Indiana.
Stewart Mora is an Indianapolis resident and community organizer who was at the protest. He said Governor Mike Braun said the focus should be on the worst of the worst criminals, but that’s not what’s happening.
“They are arresting everybody regardless of criminal history, they are rounding people up and holding them without due process. We don’t think that’s what the Governor stands for, we don’t think that’s what the state stands for," Mora said.
Lynn Jenkins is a Zionsville resident who joined the gathering. She doesn’t think the protest will change the governor’s mind, but still thinks it’s important.
“I think it’s important to help people realize they are not alone. They don’t like what’s going on, and they are coming out as you can see in great numbers just to let the rest of the people know: this is not right," Jenkins said.
Faith groups in Indiana have led numerous protests against ICE over the past year.
