Indiana VEX Robotics State Championship returns to Lucas Oil Stadium

The largest VEX robotics state championship in the country will take place in Indianapolis this week.

The event will showcase the talent of more than 245 elementary, middle, and high school teams.

TechPoint Foundation for Youth President and CEO George Giltner, said he believes robotics is one of the best things a school can provide for students.

“Kids learn how to work with their hands, other students, build, construct, they get to use engineering concepts in the design process,” Giltner said.

Giltner said his group started the State Robotics Initiative for several reasons.

“Letting schools know the benefits, finding funding to pay for these robotic kits that students can use every single year and then training teachers on how to use the equipment,” Giltner said.

He said TPF4Y is dedicated to connecting underserved and underrepresented populations to STEM opportunities.

“Our State Robotics Championship is a full circle moment for these students, and their energy each year is unwavering,” Giltner said. “The beauty of K-12 STEM programs such as robotics is that it fosters more than just knowledge. Every year, students from all backgrounds make their way to Indianapolis radiating confidence, a love for robotics and strong collaboration skills.”

The event will take place at Lucas Oil Stadium Saturday, March 12.

The competition is free, and attendance is open to the public. However, there is a suggested donation. Funds raised during the event will go directly back toward supporting Indiana schools that want to bring STEM education opportunities to their communities.
