Indianapolis police arrested a juvenile Thursday following a shooting on the city's east side.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, detectives with the Indiana Crime Guns Task Force were working a separate investigation in the 2900 block of E. 19th Street around 1:30 p.m. when they saw two juveniles approach a vehicle and one juvenile fired a gun. As the detectives began to approach the two juveniles they allegedly fled on foot. Police said both juveniles, ages 15 and 16, were apprehended minutes later without incident.

A juvenile male victim inside the vehicle suffered injuries consistent with a gunshot wound, and was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. A toddler also inside the vehicle at the time of the shooting was uninjured.

Following an investigation, detectives arrested the 15-year-old juvenile for attempted murder and aggravated battery. The 16-year-old juvenile was released into his parent’s custody pending further investigation. Detectives do not believe there is any threat to the public.
