Indianapolis will receive over $13 million dollars as part of a federal program for local communities.

Indiana’s 7th Congressional District, which covers most of Marion County, will receive the money as part of a federal program known as Community Project Funding grants.

The funds are awarded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development to local governments to invest in housing, public health, infrastructure, crime prevention and workforce development.

The money has already been divided between over a dozen projects and initiatives throughout the city.

The largest position of the funds, a $2 million share, is going towards increasing safety at the Indianapolis International Airport. Other funds will go towards expanding the Shepherd Community Center on the city’s east side and replacing lead pipes in the northeast side Martindale-Brightwood neighborhood.
