No more "India-no-place." The Circle City is on Lonely Planet’s list of the “Best in the U.S. 2015.”
A blend of time-tested favorites and emerging scenes convinced the writers and editors of the travel website to place Indianapolis No. 6 on their top 10 list of American destinations to visit in the coming year.
From Lonely Planet:
"Prepare to be surprised by Indianapolis. On a trip to Indianapolis today, you can drink mead, entertain the kids at world-class museums, eat food grown on local micro-farms, tap out some witty prose on Kurt Vonnegut’s typewriter at the Kurt Vonnegut Memorial Library (careful what you type – it live tweets), and then dash off to play computer games with curious apes at the Indy Zoo’s new International Orangutan Center (indianapoliszoo.com)."
Earlier this year, Lonely Planet called Indianapolis “America’s most surprising city,” noting that the city had outgrown its reputation for being as bland as the Wonder Bread that was invented here. “Indy’s swagger is officially on,” travel writer Karla Zimmerman declared.
