The town recently received more than $2.1 million in grant funding from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Planning Organization. IMPO awarded $78 million in state and federal funding for 30 transit, greenway, pedestrian access and trails, and road projects in 15 communities across central Indiana.

Speedway plans to use its funds for the Crawfordsville Road access and pedestrian improvements that include new sidewalks, upgraded pedestrian crossings and traffic signals.

Town manager Grant Kleinhenz said there is still a lot of planning to do before construction will begin.

“We’ve got a little bit of work ahead of us,”  Kleinhenz said.  “It will take a little bit of work to get through that design process as well as right of way acquisition and then bidding and then construction will be the final element.”

Construction is expected to begin in 2025.
