Kokomo To Get Soccer Franchise

KOKOMO, Ind. (AP) — Kokomo is getting an expansion franchise in a developmental soccer league that will play at a newly built baseball stadium.

The new team in the Premier Development League was announced Monday, and would begin play next year at Kokomo Municipal Stadium. The league says it has 65 teams in the U.S. and Canada, and the Kokomo Tribune reports much of the league is made up of college players.

The new franchise in Kokomo will be owned by MKE Sports & Entertainment. It also owns the Kokomo Jackrabbits, a Prospect League baseball team that played its inaugural season this year.

A naming contest is being held for the new soccer team.
