The Marion County Public Health Department is moving one of its three COVID testing sites, the new location opens at the Marion County Fairgrounds this week.

The location will replace the previous testing site that was outdoors at the department’s southside office. The fairgrounds location will allow a covered drive-through testing option for the winter months.

Eventually the two other county testing spots will also move to locations that can offer covered drive-through options. Right now those sites are located at the health department’s main offices, off 38th St and at Lafayette Square Mall.

Virginia A. Caine, M.D., director and chief medical officer of the Marion County Public Health Department, said testing remains a priority.

“Our drive-through testing, along with everyone wearing face coverings, washing hands and social distancing, is a critical part of slowing the spread of COVID-19 in Marion County,” Caine said.

Appointments and pre-registration are necessary to be tested at any of the health department locations.

Health officials say the demand for testing remains high.  Marion County has recorded almost 900 deaths due to COVID-19.

Residents who do not have Internet access or need help completing the online registration may call 317-221-5515.
