Free testing through the Marion County Public Health Department started in Indianapolis. The site is the Eastern Star Church on the city’s east side and aims to address disparities facing black residents.

The testing is offered to residents showing symptoms of COVID-19, older people and those with compromised immune systems. It offers drive through and walk-up testing. MCHD Director Dr. Virginia Caine says others may also be tested at this site.

"If you are a frontline person, come to us, we will be happy to test you," says Caine, "We don’t require doctor’s orders, nor do you need any money."

People are asked to call ahead to register at (317) 221-5515 -- or visit marionhealth.org/indycovid. The county will be able to test about 1,000 people a week to start and hopes to increase to 3,000 a week. Testing will start at additional sites on Monday, Wednesday and Friday this month.
