Indianapolis Public Library is breaking ground on a new Glendale Branch Library.

The Indianapolis Public Library will break ground Thursday on a new Glendale Branch Library.

The branch will relocate from Glendale Town Center to the site of the former John Strange Elementary School on 3660 E. 62nd St.

Branch Manager Judy Gray said constructing a stand-alone branch meets the needs of the community.

“They have asked for a community space, somewhere they can come in, feel comfortable, do what they need to do whether it be sit on a park bench out front and read a book or use a computer,” Gray said.

When the current Glendale branch opened in 2000 it became the first full-service library to operate in a major shopping mall.

The new branch is expected to be about 25,000 square feet with completion in the summer of 2023.
