Indiana Sen. Andrea Hunley (D-Indianapolis) announced Friday she will not seek reelection in 2026.

Hunley represents Senate District 46, covering downtown Indianapolis and surrounding neighborhoods. She was elected to the Indiana General Assembly in 2022.

She did not reveal her future plans in a Friday statement, but there has been ongoing speculation Hunley will join the race for Indianapolis mayor in 2027.

"While my role may change, my commitment to this work will not," Hunley said. "Our city needs bold leadership to be a world class destination for people to work, play, study, and stay. I am not going anywhere."

Hunley's announcement comes just one day after City-County Councilor and former Council President Vop Osili entered the mayoral race.

Current Mayor Joe Hogsett said his third term would be his last when elected in 2023, and has not announced new plans since then.
